A Message from Landmark Musicals’ Executive Director:

Hello wonderful Landmark family! Our behind-the-scenes polish work with Landmark Musicals continues, and in this newsletter update, we’re excited to share Landmark Musicals’ new website. Scroll below for additional details.

To celebrate the 2022 holiday season, we’re bringing White Christmas to the Rodey Theater stage for our fall production. White Christmas is based on the beloved, timeless film, and this heartwarming musical adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake.

I hate to end this message on a sad note, but the Landmark Musicals family lost a good one. Michael Finnegan passed away May 28, 2022. I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about someone very dear to me. It’s not every day that you meet someone who has made an enormous impact on your life. Michael Finnegan was someone I genuinely admired and will forever appreciate. I met Michael many years ago when he was dancing in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow with New Mexico Ballet Company. Watching him and David Chavez dance on stage blew me away! From then on, we spent lots of time on and off-state with Albuquerque Civic Light Opera, Albuquerque Little Theater, and Landmark Musicals. Michael mentored me to become a better director, choreographer, and leader, as well as a better father and person. Through the years, Michael and Laurie have not only become close friends but also family. I will always cherish the beautiful memories of working alongside Michael J. Finnegan. The photo above is a snapshot of Courtney, Michael, and myself.

On behalf of Landmark Musicals, I wish you and yours a beautiful summer!

Tribute to Michael P. Finnegan

Michael P. Finnegan

6/13/1943 to 5/28/2022

One of the earliest members of Landmark Musicals’ board of directors, Michael has been a huge part of the Albuquerque Theatre community for several decades. Prior to sitting on the board of Landmark Musicals, Michael was also on the boards of the Albuquerque Little Theatre and ACLOA/MTS.

In addition to his board work, Michael is best remembered for his incredible talents onstage. An accomplished dancer, Michael danced with the New Mexico Ballet Company and then started performing with the Albuquerque Civic Light Opera. From the King & I (King) to Sweeney Todd (Sweeney) to the Music Man (Harold Hill) to My Fair Lady (Henry Higgins) to Camelot (King Arthur) and so many more, then on to the Albuquerque Little Theatre for A Chorus Line, Gypsy and Annie. His first show for Landmark was Side By Side By Sondheim in 2009. Michael went on to perform for Landmark in: The Fantasticks, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, 1776, Hello, Dolly!, Annie, Putting It Together and his most magnificent performance as Teyve in Fiddler on the Roof.

A consummate performer, Michael was an inspiration to those who worked with him. Landmark Musicals grieves his loss. He shall be deeply missed. Additional photos can be found on our website at: www.landmarkmusicals.org/michael-p-finnegan/
